Curriculum News

Devonport Primary School delivers a balanced programme across all areas of the New Zealand Curriculum. The basic programme consists of focused learning in Maths and Literacy with an integrated programme for most other curriculum areas based around 4 concepts or "big ideas". Through these concepts, children build their knowledge, develop a range of skills and are encouraged to pursue lines of inquiry to deepen their understanding.

This year our concepts are

Action   Imagination  Perspective    Rhythm

Children are assessed on entry to school and teachers continue to monitor and assess progress at regular intervals. This enables teachers to place children in appropriate groups for learning within the class (or syndicate) for Numeracy and Literacy programmes.

These different groupings ( or streams of learning)are flexible and the composition of groups will change during the term and year as a result of progress made.

Throughout, parents will be kept informed. If you are unsure of any aspects of your child's learning programme, please ask. We believe that children progress best when parents are our partners and we work together to maximise your child's learning outcomes.

BROCHURES

The school has developed a series of brochures and information about specific programmes. Please ask at the school office for a copy. Also if there is any information you would like about other programmes, please ask. We will be happy to help.
